Comicbook heroes on film, TV & DVD this week

The big news this week is that Damon Lindelof is heading to pilot a Watchmen TV series for HBO.  The series is based on the book by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons which spawned a prequel series ‘Before Watchman’ and is coming into the DC Universe this autumn via Geoff Johns and ‘Doomsday Clock’.  Will you be watching the Watchmen?  Let us know!

Big news this week is the new Star Trek Discovery TV series starts on Netflix.  You can also see season 3 of Gotham on Netflix or get it on DVD, as Channel 5 have yet to show it.

At the cinema we see the sequel to Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar’s ‘Kingsman – Secret Service’.  ‘Kingsman – the Golden Circle’ is already doing well in America with a $45million opening few days.

On TV in the UK the premiere of ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ starring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig is on Sat 23 Sep at 9pm on Channel 4.  At the same time you can watch ‘Priest’ based on the graphic novel by Hyung Min Woo and starring Paul Bettany and Dredd star Karl Urban. Later on at 11pm Sky 1 has ‘Wanted’ with James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie – both no strangers to other comic book movies!

The Eric Bana Hulk movie is on Channel 4 on Sunday afternoon on 24 Sep.  On Sky Movies Action/Adventure channel from Monday you can catch Superman IV, Rise of the Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Superman Returns, Underworld Evolution, any Batman movie you care to mention (nearly!), Punisher Dead Zone and 300.

Iron Man 2 with Robert Downey Jr and Mickey Rourke is on Film 4 on Freeview at 9pm on Thur 28 Sep.

Harrison Ford talks Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling on Graham Norton.  Harley Quinn Margot Robbie turns up too!

Outlander continues on More4 Thursdays at 9pm, Doctor Who re runs on W, Goodnight Sweetheart on Gold and X Files throughout the week on Spike.  Sherlock can also be found on Alibi mid week.  Doctor Who fans can also enjoy David Tennant’s appearance in the Sarah Jane Adventures on CBBC this Sunday.

On DVD Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is still available with the reworking of King Arthur by Guy Richie just out too.
